History
Tristol was one of the many who escaped from Quel’Thalas when the kingdom fell. While he was not forced to flee until much later since he was in Silvermoon City, his parents and other family members were killed as they fled Tranquillien before the undead horde. However, he did not know this until after they had fled the city when he finally found someone who knew them and had watched them fall. Reeling from the dual loss, he followed Prince Kael’thas through war to Outland, believing that there was nothing left for him on Azeroth.
Before the split between Kael’thas and Illidan’s forces, he eagerly pushed himself to be accepted into the training of the demon hunters. Though warned by many of his kin that it was more likely to kill him than he was to survive, Tristol was set on his course. Staying around his own people and their pain hurt too much. And what else, after all, did he have to lose but himself? What else did he have to give but this to fight a foe even worse than the Scourge?
Accepted into their pre-training meant to weed out those viable and not, he fought hard against his fellow trainees. He proved his worth and his skill through bloodshed and sacrifice…which eventually brought the eyes of the older demon hunters upon him. These eyes included those of a night elf, Kylaith Evenbow – a former Warden who had come to Outland after her husband had been killed in the Third War. Like him, she had come to Illidan seeking a purpose and the power to take revenge on those who had taken everything from her. She trained him extensively before and after his initiation and they also shared a bed for many years.
When it came time, Tristol was given a place to go and told that there would be a demon there that he would have to kill. He faltered a little when he saw his destined foe was a doomguard or ered’ruin and wondered if those who had sent him were trying to get him killed. Though it was hard and he ended up severely wounded at the time, he managed to kill the doomguard. Bloodied but victorious, he devoured its heart and drank its blood as he had been told. He woke after the horrible visions with blood dripping from his face where he had torn out his own eyes with now clawed hands and the beginning nubs of what would become his horns making his head ache fiercely.
Tristol served the demon hunters loyally after his initiation into their ranks. He fought and bled beside his fellows, seeking ways to take down the Legion with a terrifying single-mindedness. When the Black Temple and Illidan fell, he had been left behind during the attack on Mardum and furiously fought his attackers until he was told that his Lord had fallen. Confronted by the knowledge that both Illidan and Kylaith were dead, he surrendered to the hands of Warden Yalysae Evenbow – Kylaith’s sister.
Freed from his imprisonment by Yalysae Evenbow years later, Tristol immediately threw himself back into fighting the forces of the Legion. After they escaped from the Vault of the Wardens, Warden Evenbow gave him Kylaith’s journal that she had found when the Temple was searched. In it, he found that she had cared more for him than he had thought – had truly loved him but had never let herself show such. Yalysae’s parting farewell also had him reconsidering what it was to be a demon hunter and what he would do if there was no more Legion to fight.
Returning to Quel’Thalas and seeing it rise from the ashes was good but his initial treatment by his people was subpar. Treated as a monster or worse, he fell to drinking and killing demons with little thought to himself. During this low period, he was found by Lymalis Duskstrider and became a member of Grimskull’s Raiders. With them, he discovered a purpose and meaning beyond killing demons, as well as relationships outside of the Illidari.
