History
As a fighter amongst the ranks of Quel’Thalas, Taelthea fought hard to become good at her job. She was not of high rank but it was known she could be relied on and would protect those near her with a fierce fervor. The Taelthea of then was a woman proud of her skills, ready with a steady hand for those in need and a brilliant smile for her loved ones. Especially her younger sister, who she loved deeply.
Unlike some of her other kin, she always took news of the orcish threat seriously, even before her people were drawn into the war by Anduin Lothar’s citing of the ancient pact with the Arathi. She was a member of a small land unit sent with the fleet from Quel’Thalas but eventually ended up under the command of Ranger Captain Alleria Windrunner when volunteered to join the Alliance Expedition to fend off the orcish Horde. Despite the pain of leaving her family behind, she supported the decision to destroy the Dark Portal.
Her years in Outland were spent in and around Honor Hold. She participated in several searches for General Turalyon and Captain Windrunner but fell in line under the command of Danath Trollbane after it was determined that they were truly lost. Never expecting to return home, she made the best of her life what she could – continuing to be a warrior who would step into place between others and that which would attack them. She also had a soft spot for the few children who were born to Expedition members, especially to a young Karre Melithis after the girl became a ward of fellow warrior Maengus Smythe. It was Taelthea who took the child all the way to Nagrand and helped forge her connection with a talbuk in hopes it would give the girl a different way to navigate her rage at her parents deaths.
Nearly two decades after the Portal was closed, it opened again. Hearing the stories from those who had come of what had happened to her home, she was desperate to return – so much so that it was distracting her from her duties at Honor Hold. Released from her duty, Taelthea returned to Azeroth to find her home recovering from the horrors of the Scourge and learned that her parents had died during the fall of Quel’Thalas, killed by the undead. What she did not find was any word on her younger sister’s fate and began a desperate search for her across every continent.
When one of her leads took her to the Plaguelands, Taelthea was attacked by a force of undead…including a Death Knight. To her confusion, they did not kill her outright but instead wounded her enough to incapacitate her before taking her with them. Taelthea slowly bled out on the way back and just before she lost consciousness, she heard an echoing voice say, “This one is a fighter. Put her with the ones to be Knights.” Her next memory was waking cold, with the bitter chill of Arthas Menethil’s voice in her head.
Just under a year later, Taelthea was freed from the leash of the Lich King after having been raised as one of his Death Knights. Horrified at becoming the very thing that had killed her family, she fell into a depression and debated attempting to kill herself. However…her sister was still out there. There were still others to protect as well, including those who remained in her old home. And as a Death Knight, she was far tougher than she had previously been. She could protect as she had before and still serve. She could still find out what happened to her sister. And avenge her death and the deaths of her people by killing the monsters that had taken them away, even though she had become one herself.
